I am an avid bird lover and taking my first falconry class soon and I was hoping for some insight on the sport but I was wrong with my choice in books.

I had hopes that I would really learn something. Instead I got a book that reads like a dictionary, poor photos, drawings and it downright boring.

This book would have been better if it was ALL photos with descriptions underneath them.

I would rather watch paint dry.

This book was first published in 1900. As an older example of a book on falconry, this is not a book for those wanting to know more about modern falconry practices or those studying for the falconry exam. However, if you love the history of falconry, which is a significant aspect of both the sport and the art of this form of hunting/birdwatching, and you like the typical older English writing style, you will probably like this book. The author has many very accurate and thereby valuable observations on falconry birds both as a species and as individuals, something which is, I feel, lacking in a great many more modern falconry books. Those involved in this sport I would assume got into it out of a fascination with the raptors themselves and the world they live in, not a fascination with what gauntlet or hood to buy next, but sometimes it seems too many of us lose sight of our true passions. This author does not appear to have ever lost sight of his own passion for falconry, and that comes through in these pages.
Lots of information about falconry and should help any new beginner learn the of the trade . Remember bird 're your friend
I bought this to refresh my mind so I can get back into falconry. the book is well laid out and interesting reading. Well worth the money.
If you enjoy writing from other eras, falconry, or both, this book is for you. Author obviously loved his birds and the sport. A true delight.
